Reflection & Update on My Business Life

In business, motivation by Michael Michelini4 Comments

Wait, do I have anything else but a BUSINESS LIFE? So what the heck do I do for a living? What am I upto now? Where in the world am I now? Jeez, I guess even though I’m pretty active blogging, and open about most of my personal and business life, have done business updates before, its about time I kinda summarize again whats been going on and whats the latest plan.

I have been blogging (whining, complaining) a lot, 2010 has been a transitional year for me…..

1981 to 2003 was pretty clear, be born into this world, go to school and learn – get educated, get good grades, get internships and work experience.

2003 – 2007 was somewhat clear, get a job, build experience. Wanted to do that in NYC.

2004 – 2007 start selling online while working, with the goal to start my own business one day. Newyorkbarstore is born.

2007…..got a little bit fuzzy, quit my day job in April, moved to California, started Shadstone sourcing to help small and medium sized American businesses develop products and buy from China. Ended up moving to China later towards end of 2007.

2007 – early 2009 – Sourcing from China, living in China, deal with Chinese factories, trying to sue chinese factories, American importers. Develop new product in China called electrapour. Get into a spyble SEO tool. Learn by fire. Overwhelmed, unfocused.

2009transition to pure internet marketing. Still in China, but why do English website marketing in China, where costs are increasing and English is not native language? Read it may be better then India though, and I already had my network here, investment here, and somewhat of a sales start.

2010 – Is being in China right? Got back involved with newyorkbarstore fulltime….dealing with a fulltime USA ecommerce business and still have China business to deal with. Start to explore with opening a call center in Philippines….Still try to hold onto China “option card”. Travel a LOT to find answers – Visit many Chinese cities – Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Xiamen, Guangzhou; Philippines multiple times, Thailand, and 2 months in USA. Renewed Chinese work permit for 2011.

So here I am, writing this in December 2010 from my startup office in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Basically above summarizes my business life.

I am excited about 2011, new years always bring that “Fresh slate” type of feeling.

While I had been tempted to stay in New York City, rode an emotional rollercoaster of coming back to USA after almost 2 and a half years, overwhelmed with family and marriage internal pressure….it made sense to take the pre-paid return ticket to Hong Kong and think it all over.

Maybe this is destiny…man I am making life changing decisions of where in the world to live, what to do, all online, and out there. And I think being open online, blogging is helping, this blog started when I left my day job, and man it has developed and expanded to be a sounding board for my business and my life……while scary, overall its effective. And I am at the same time riding the social media wave building klout!

So the update …..man I talk too much (Like Marie said, I like to blog so I can talk all I want and the internet has to listen!)

It still not exactly set in stone, but I am working out final details to move back to China, learn Chinese better, and build the ecommerce dual ended distribution monster (loadpipe) that I have dreamed about, in a factory city further inland called Dong Guan.

I hope to get less reliant on staying up all night doing USA hours work, streamline operations, and focus purely on internet marketing (SEO & social media), sales, and marketing. Bargaining with people about newyorkbarstore and electrapour now in USA.

FOCUS, and conquer

All right! – we can do some damage on the domestic e-commerce – I’m researching now – can’t post my secret weapon here – can talk about it when your back! Donguan…. sigh, grumble – well whatever you think is best 🙂
