Everyone wants to be a Billionaire – And then What?

In motivation by Michael Michelini5 Comments

So many people dream to become rich, multi millionaires. But whats the point…really…..all your problems in life will simply go away?

Another annoying thing is people choose a job based on salary…..I can admit I have done that in the past, working at Deutsche bank, it was one of the highest paying offers, but then again, I didn’t want to do IT work or engineering work. I wanted to learn about business, building businesses. And I wanted to save to get an MBA and/or start a business….which is exactly what I did do with the money I saved from my first and only fulltime job after college. And it was a good choice for me, I learned alot, as well as saved.

BUT MONEY IS A MEANS to get what you want, not the end goal itself. Sure, it is a globally known “Scorecard. “money talks, bullshit walks” is often what we hear. or “put your money where your mouth is”. Money has become a way for us to SHOW OFF, to show people – hey man, I am awesome, I have so much money now.

Health …..everyone always makes me worry about this part…..working too hard to make money….and u cannot get that back….money cannot buy health.

Happiness – sure there are plenty of things we can do in life to make a lot of money, but would that also make us happy. That is the main question. Would you do illegal things, immoral things, DISGUSTING things to make a lot of money?

  • Young kids in urban areas, would you sell drugs to other poor kids to make a million dollars?
  • Pretty girls, would you be a porn star, stripper, or prostitute if you could make a million dollars? If it could make you a famous actress?
  • Chinese business guy – would you sell fake products if it could make you a millionaire? Or sell your customer’s OEM product to someone else without his permission?
  • Internet guy – would you sell sex toys, viagra, or spam email if it could make you millions?
  • Wall Street guy – would you cheat a customer out of up-to-date stock news if you could sellout before him? Lie about stock gains, inflate you portfolio?
  • Government official – would you take bribes from contractors who want you to choose their bid for a new economical zone?

In my life, I have met all of these kinds of people, really…..in all parts of the world….I engage in conversation. I don’t think of myself as better then the person who chooses these careers, but I ask them why. Sometimes they will say they have to make money for their family. They will say they have no other choice. Or they say they will only do some of these things for a few years until they save enough money to enter a legitimate business…….

Sadly, I dont know if I believe them – I think its because you get addicted or caught up in these industries. You get more money, you think you can keep doing it and then leave later. But there will always be some reason for you to stick around longer. And you will find a way to justify it. That the world gave you a bad opportunity and you had no other choice but to lead the life you are in now. You will blame financial conditions, family, or friends who FORCED you to go this direction in life.

There is a good saying I heard in a fraternity National conference for Delta Tau Delta, something like this:

There is no freedom in today’s America. Freedom in America today is FINANCIAL freedom. And financial freedom is the ability to quit your job at any moment, under any circumstances and be able to live under stable conditions with no additional income for at least a few months. If you cannot do this, then you are a SLAVE TO SOCIETY. you are a slave to your job.

If you do not have the financial freedom to quit your job, then if your boss puts you under a situation where you have to do something you are not comfortable with, but you have to do it for fear of losing your income – YOU ARE A SLAVE.

So for me, I would rather not have millions, or billions, and be able to live the life I want to live. I do not want to be a slave to money. I do not want to be a slave to someone else. Its about cash flow, and having some padding for a rainy day. Then you have power and freedom.

There has been a popular song that just came out by Travis McCoy, Billionaire and here are some lyrics below:

I wanna be a billionaire so fricking bad
Buy all of the things I never had
Uh, I wanna be on the cover of Forbes magazine
Smiling next to Oprah and the Queen

[Chorus] Oh every time I close my eyes
I see my name in shining lights
A different city every night oh
I swear the world better prepare
For when I’m a billionaire

Here is an video from youtube, it is rather inspirational song and poem.

How Long Until You Are a Millionaire?

People reading this post wonder, ok – so when can I expect to become a millionaire.

In today’s online world, there are ways now. Calculators to give you the exact time – so you can set your goals and expectations.

Because we all deserve to be millionaires – either in finance or in our friendships.

So enjoy this calculator my buddy Shlomo made at Free Financial Self. Check out the Millionaire calculator

But if you notice, ITS NOT ABOUT BEING A MILLIONAIRE nowadays, is about being a billionaire…..jeez, talk about big goals. It’s admirable. But I guess having millions of dollars nowadays isn’t enough. It’s gotta be billions.

For me, its about getting by, doing what we love to do, and not being bound to have to be forced to do something we don’t want to do.

      Hi Jane,
I always wonder if there is a solution for this……..workers want to become rich, and feel they cannot get rich working under a company…..

How to make thins win win?

  2. Mike,i don’t think there is a win win way,,i believe one of human nature is selfishness ,,,,
people just need to know how to cover the true ugly nature and keep it in a limited way,,,that is my stupid idea^^

  3. with a million in the bank i would pretty much do and live where i am right now.
learn to live more modestly, healthier and with fewer things. material possessions don’t bring us happyiness and ultimately weigh us down and own us.
everyone wants to find that billion but how about skipping that step and going after the things you want the billions to bring you…..

i hear ya Scott – I think its just society……pressure.

i remember being back at Kennelly school….all the kids wanted the newest Nikes. If some walked in with old sneakers, or a bad haircut, he/she was ridiculed and teased over and over for at least that whole day.

then we want to impress friends. We want to have the popular girl as our girlfriend in high school. We feel in order to do this, we have to have the coolest car in the parking lot, the hippest, trendiest clothes.

And I think as we get older, it only gets harder. To have the new Iphone version 10, or whatever.

its the system man! the system…..
