Inside a massive chinese government ecommerce summit

Its true…my friends tell me this time of the year….so many conferences, trade fair. March and April I will be better prepared for next year…..back to back awards speeches (still working on that blog writeup from last week), product trade shows in hong kong and guangzhou, and tons of events and visitors in town.

Doug has been here a few days now and we were able to get lucky and have his trip aligned with a massive Chinese government e-commerce meeting. The main theme of the meeting seems to be on domestic (selling into China), but there is an afternoon session about export B2C e-commerce.

I felt like a superstar coming into the conference hotel lobby…..they welcomed me like ‘hello mai li ni, hello hello’ (my chinese name)….i thank weibo and chinese blogging for that.

The moderator escorted us into the front of the huge room that was jam packed conference hall that had already gotten underway.

Typing this blog real time from my VIP seat at the moring opening ceremony. Listening to 360buy.com VP speak on the future of chinese e-commerce, really need to improve my chinese to further benefit…

Next up listened to Amazon’s Senior Vice President of Amazon ,Fang Gan – he studied at UPENN in america .

Keep listening to keywords I know about USA e-commerce, and China e-commerce. Watching the powerpoint slides flipping by compariing big top 50 e-commerce websites in USA and trends in the past 10 years of America, and the booming and quickly rising Chinese domestic e-commerce following that same path now.

Its true….more and more Chinese export B2C sellers I network with are investing more and more time to also add a domestic Chinese e-commerce business in addition to their mature and established export model.

I am also investigating this more and more. Brand building, dual distribution in export (international, english language) e-commerce that I am experienced in and strong at, combined with the booming and growing chinese domestic market.

GLOBAL E-COMMERCE! Not china and usa ecommerce…..its about all countries having seamless and integrated buying and selling on a consumer level. This is the distruption opportunity.

It has to affect governments more. …as global commerce, e-commerce takes out borders acros countries….how can countries control product flow, money flow, going in and out of various countries, bank accounts, all around the globe.

Its fascinating to me. Technology and the internet taking down physical borders and challenging governments to adapt.

In the afternoon session Doug & I were in a forum to discuss the export B2C ecommerce challenges and opportunties in today’s market environment. The only 2 foreigners (non-Chinese) at the event, But later in the afternoon met Mihran CEO of dianboom.com a 3D chinese shopping mall platform.

After the speeches and talks we did some government relationship building. ..dinner and drinks.
