Happy Friday, about 6pm here and I’m off my morning coffees, but I thought it would be good to get it out for USA time zone Friday mornings, get some fresh eyes on this poem my Chinese friend sent me today.
Read below, I’ll add my perspective after:
Enjoy your coffee this morning!
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups – porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: “If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.
Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups… And then you began eyeing each other’s cups.
Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. The cups are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us.”
God brews the coffee, not the cups……… Enjoy your coffee!
“The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.” Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly and bloom where you are planted! Leave the rest to God.
Again and again, I as well as probably everyone in this world thinks what is the point of life? I’m not going to get into religion here, and I know the end of the poem does get religious….but even if you take that part out (I didn’t want to edit it)….then you still get a great deal of value here in the read.
ITS ABOUT THE LIFE WE LIVE. Not the clothes we wear, not the car we drive, the house….its about spending good time with friends. Its about the life adventure. Its about “writing the book of our life, the chapters in it”, the people we meet, LEARNING ABOUT WHO WE TRULY ARE
And for me, its also inspiring people to think outside of the box, challenging themselves.
Enjoy your Friday morning coffee my friends in America today.
Signing out.

Finally, not a poem fwd’d by Attila, hehehe.
But I have to admit, it made a whole lot of sense. Thanks for posting it.
Right now I am drinking out of a blue coffee mug (made by Nestle, blue color inside, white outside outside, with a picture of an extremely skinny guy sipping coffee next to his bike). I was at Walmart shopping for a nice coffee mug, already picked out one really nice mug for 22 RMB ($3.4 USD) until I put it back on the shelf after seeing Maxwell House is giving away a free mug if you buy 42 sticks of their instant 3-in-1 coffee for 30 RMB ($4.6 USD). So, I got the coffee, and the free mug.
Hideous picture on the mug, but comforting to know the mug was free, LOL.
I sound like a cheap ass…but in reality, as everyone knows, its not how much you make, its how much you save that matters most.
