Leaders With A Heart: Episode 292 Mike Michelini: His Background And Path From Wall Street To China & Beyond

In blog by Michael Michelini

Greetings Fellow Leaders With A Heart, in this episode # 292, I’m talking with a good friend of mine, Michael Michelini. I first started hearing about him on his podcast, Global From Asia, back in 2011-2012. Then we met when I was living in China in 2017 at a conference he was hosting in Shenzhen. This is an episode that I was looking forward and I’m excited for this one.

Mike is a born connector and a very prolific content creator. He has been hosting events in the field of E-Commerce, Cross Border business for the last decade. Now he is based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

In this episode # 292, which is Part I of our conversation, Mike talks about his background, his path early on working on Wall Street and then, how from there, he ended up in China. He shares some funny and very interesting stories and anecdotes from his time in the world of Finance and what’s it like working at a big bank on Wall Street. He also talks about the challenges and opportunities that he faced when he first came to China. As well as how he met a woman who would end up becoming his wife.

He is from NYC where upon graduating college in finance, he worked in Wall Street and after a year or so, he came to China, first to source products, fell in love with the vibe and incredible opportunities there. He decided to quit his high paying job at Deutsche Bank and left to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities that China presented in 2007.

Since that time, living in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, he’s built multiple 6 figure businesses in various fields such as E-commerce, consulting, sourcing, import-export and in organizing the most awesome business events in South China for a few years now. He’s also the host of the very popular and highly successful podcast, Global From Asia. His Global From Asia events are becoming so popular that they’re expanding to other cities in China, Asia and around the world!

All in all, this is a very fun, informative and enjoyable conversation with a man who is fun to talk to and has a lot of interesting stories. Give this episode a listen and a watch, you’ll enjoy it.
