Year-End 2025: Family Mountain Christmas Camping

It’s quickly becoming a family tradition! Every year-end, we head up to the mountains of Chiang Mai for some “glamping” — that’s fancy camping in a really nice permanent tent complete with a comfortable mattress, electricity, and running water.

The kids are growing up so fast — now 9 and 11 — and we want to make the most of these last few years while they’re still living at home with Wendy and me.

This time, we booked a 3-day, 2-night family camping trip at The Doi. We were amazed by how many different camping options there are in the area — the skyline is dotted with various styles and locations to choose from. (We’re already scouting spots for next year!)

We arrived and enjoyed a lovely dinner while watching the sunset, then strolled around the different camping areas before turning in early.

On Saturday, we visited a mountain roller coaster park where the kids experienced an exciting mountain roller coaster ride, zip-lining, and a free jump off a tall tree. Maggie and Miles had very different opinions on the thrills!

After that, we stopped by a beautiful local temple (no video footage allowed) and finished the day at an Instagram-worthy flower garden for a fun family photo shoot. We’re just trying to cherish every moment we have together as a family.

We capped off the evenings with more sunset dinners on the mountainside. It was a bit chilly, but the atmosphere was magical — complete with fireworks and KTV singing. The crowd was mostly local Thai and Chinese tourists, with a handful of Western families. I’d say it’s still very much a local spot.

I highly recommend checking out this area. It’s open year-round, but the end-of-year period is definitely high season — and for good reason. The weather is perfect, the views are stunning, and it’s an unforgettable experience for families.
